Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, you will lead a cohesive team responsible for end‑to‑end accounting processes. Your leadership will ensure our financial systems operate with precision, our controls are robust, and our information is reliable — ultimately contributing to stronger communities and enhanced futures for the next generation.
In this role, you will champion accuracy, discipline, and excellence in all accounting operations. You will:
Lead the accounting team (Senior Financial Accountant, Assistant Accountant, and Finance Assistants) to ensure cohesive performance and consistent standards.
Oversee all daily accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, month‑end processes, and internal controls.
Ensure the organisation’s financial data is complete, accurate, and ready for reporting and audit requirements.
Maintain disciplined financial processes that build integrity and visibility across the organisation.
Support the CFO with financial analysis, reporting insights, and the successful execution of the Finance work plan.
Strengthen internal capability by coaching, developing, and lifting the confidence and skill of your team.
Uphold compliance expectations with diligence and pride — ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and proper handling of sensitive financial information.
Your mahi will directly influence the quality of financial information that supports governance, operations, and strategic planning.
About You
You are a highly organised, accuracy‑driven accounting professional with a passion for creating strong systems and developing strong people. You thrive in environments that demand discipline, accountability, and continuous improvement.
You will bring:
A leadership style that is encouraging, accountable, and focused on building capability.
Exceptional attention to detail and pride in delivering high‑quality financial information.
The ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining calm, clarity, and confidence within your team.
A commitment to confidentiality and good judgment when working with sensitive information.
A desire to contribute to the wellbeing of our organisation and our people through strong financial stewardship.
Desired Skills and Experience
Essential:
Proven people‑leadership experience within a finance or accounting environment.
Account Technician (AT) or higher, with a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience (including 2 years in the core area of responsibility).
Strong technical understanding of accounting processes and internal controls.
High level of diligence, accuracy, and process discipline.
Ability to manage deadlines, prioritise effectively, and maintain quality under pressure.
Strong communication and relationship‑building skills, with a commitment to team culture and collective performance.

Join a forward‑thinking organisation committed to strengthening capability, transparency, and long‑term wellbeing for Tūhoe. This is an opportunity to continue to grow your accounting craft in a unique context while contributing to outcomes that genuinely matter.
